The New York Yankees pounded out 15 hits and AJ Burnett threw 6 scoreless innings as the Bronx Bombers took the rubber match of the three game series from the AL West leading Texas Rangers 9-2.
Burnett looked solid after going 0-2 with an ERA over 6.00 in his previous seven starts and the offense reached double-digit hits for the fourth straight game.
“I basically went after them,” Burnett said. “I didn’t leave anything over the plate. That’s a big difference. When you don’t make mistakes, they can’t capitalize.”
Burnett gave up just three hits, striking out seven Rangers and allowed only four walks in recording his first victory since April 14th.
The Yankees have won 12 of their last 15 games now are tied atop the division with Boston. It is the first time this season New York has been in first place in the AL East.
It is the same old story in the AL East with New York and Boston jockeying for position atop the division. The Yanks head to Boston for a three game set with the Red Sox on June 9th.
