Major League Baseball’s player salary numbers have been released and they prove one thing.
You have to pay big bucks to produce a winner.
Six teams among the top eight by average salary made the postseason. The Colorado Rockies (15th at $2.93 million) and Minnesota Twins (17th at $2.66 million) were the other two in the playoffs. The Rockies and Twins were both eliminated in the first round.
The World Series champion New York Yankees had by far the highest average at $7.66 million.
The Chicago Cubs and the New York Mets had the highest salary per player among the team not to make the Post season. The Cubs finish second in the NL Central behind the Cardinals and the Mets were decimated by injuries and plummeted to a 70-92 record.
