Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada was sentenced to one year of probation for misleading Congress. The 34 year-old, Tejada, pleaded guilty last month to making a misrepresentation to Congress. He admitted that he lied to congressional staffers during an interview in 2005 that focused on the prevalence of steroids in Major League Baseball.
“I take full responsibility,” Tejada said. “I apologize to the Congress and to the court and especially to the kids.”
Tejada was also fined $5,000, given 100 hours of community service and as a citizen of the Dominican Republic could face deportation.
It is important to point out that their has never been any evidence that Tejada ever used Steroids or Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Tejada had said he bought HGH while playing for the Oakland A’s but threw them out before every using them.
Prosecutors had no evidence to contradict that.
