With one out in the fourth of a 2-0 ballgame against the Milwaukee Brewers, Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels was struck by a line-drive off the bat of Prince Fielder. According to Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel the ball hit Hamels on the upper part of the left-handed pitcher’s throwing arm.

Manuel removed Hamels from the game as a precautionary measure.

After the game, Hamels took reporter he had a nasty bruise, but expects to make his next start.

“Oh, yeah,” Hamels said. “I’ll be fine. I’ve gotten hit in much worse spots, spots where you don’t really come back as fast. I’ll be able to go out there and pitch in five days.”

Phillies coaches will surely be keeping a close eye on their start pitcher when he goes through his next scheduled bullpen session this weekend in Florida.
