According to reports coming out of Colorado, Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy has turned down the job as Avalanche head coach.

After spending nearly two weeks going over the difficult decision Roy feels that it is more important to him and his family that he stays close to home instead of taking the job as NHL head coach.

“I felt pretty comfortable moving up, but the family situation is just not quite there for me right now,” said Roy. “When it comes to family, it’s always easier to make a decision. But don’t get me wrong here, I have the Avalanche at heart.”

Roy is arguably one of the greatest net-minders every to put on an NHL uniform. He won two Stanley Cup titles in Colorado; one in 1996 and the other in 2001 after a standout career with the Canadiens. Roy retired in 2003 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006.
