Plaxico Burress Set To Testify Before Grand Jury

It looks like former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress will get to tell a Manhattan grand jury his side of the story on Wednesday morning.
Burress faces a weapons charge for shooting himself in the thigh at a nightclub last year.
Burress’ attorney, Benjamin Brafman feels that the his client needs to get his story out there after Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau spoke publicly about the case.
Burress is charged with criminal possession of a weapon and faces up to three and a half years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty and is free on $100,000 bail. The Giants released the receiver in April.
Does three and a half years seem a little excessive to any one else? According to the DA, they are pushing for two years and Burress agreed to one. Even one year in jail for shooting yourself seems harsh?
I mean, Burress ended up with a bullet in his leg, lost his job, and will almost certainly face a suspension from the league. Hasn’t this guy suffered enough? Slap him with probation, a fine and send him on his way.
