Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller received a standing ovation in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night for leading the United States to an Olympic silver medal.

What is truly extraordinary about this is that the cheers for Miller seemed to dwarf that of the Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby.

Olympians for both teams were introduced before the game, with Miller drawing the loudest and most sustained cheering. Crosby also was given a standing ovation, but it was less enthusiastic than Miller’s despite his vast popularity in Pittsburgh.

This goes to show how much this year’s United States Hockey Olympic Hockey team captured the hearts of Americans in the Vancouver games.

Entering the tournament, Team USA was not given much of a chance by critics, however, their improbable run to the Gold Medal game caught the attention everyone.
