The Philadelphia Phillies have announced that Pedro Martinez will make his first start of the season on Wednesday at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs.
The move inserting Martinez into the starting rotation means that veteran left-handed pitcher Jamie Moyer will move to the bullpen.
“Based on our reports on how Pedro has pitched in his rehab starts, we felt it was time to move him into our rotation,” Phillies coach Charlie Manuel said. “Jamie was a total professional and team player when we let him know of the decision to move him to the bullpen. He has been and will continue to be a very important part of this team.”
Moyer has won 10 games for Philadelphia this season and Martinez was 1-1 in three rehab starts in the minor leagues.
