NHL Winter Classic At New Yankee Stadium?
Posted Under: Hockey Betting
In an attempted to boost fan interest and get some national exposure, the NHL introduced the Winter Classic a few seasons ago. A New Years Day game at an outdoor venue was thought to add a little glitz to the league.
Well, it worked. Both games, the 2008 edition in Orchard Park, NY, home of the Buffalo Bills and this year’s game at Wrigley Field, Chicago were great successes.
The NHL is currently searching for a 2010 home for their new novelty. New York’s new Yankee Stadium may be near if not at the top of the list. What better place then the “Big Apple?” An original six match-up of the Broadway Blue-shirts and the Boston Bruins or Montreal Canadians could be the biggest ever. Even a Rangers-Islanders game would have some appeal.
Critics say that New York get enough love from the league and someone else should get a chance. But, it seems only logical to spend New Years Eve in Time Square and then head over to the Bronx the next morning.
