New York Mets To Seek Help From Unfamiliar Faces
Posted Under: Baseball Betting
When Spring Training came to a close and the New York Mets were looking to begin the 2009 regular season, their outfield looked as solid as it has ever been. In fact, one might have said they had too many possible starters on the roster.
Now, with just under one month in the books and the Mets a half game behind the National League East leading Phillies the story has changed.
With center fielder Carlos Beltran to sit out the weekend with a bone bruise below his right knee, Ryan Church being placed on the disabled list, and another injury to Carlos Delgado forcing Daniel Murphy to see time at first base, the Mets will be looking to fill some spots.
New York has promoted highly touted outfielder Fernando Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo.
Manager Jerry Manuel will be using a patch-work line-up to try and buy some time to get his team healthy.
New York has managed to stay close to Philadelphia despite losing Church, Delgado, catcher Brian Schneider, pitcher Oliver Perez, infielder Alex Cora and now the biggest lose of all, Jose Reyes.
