New York Jets Name Their Starting Quarterback

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has announced that he would be opening camp with veteran Kellen Clemens atop the QB depth chart. However, the rookie head coach reiterated that it will be an open competition and he will give Mark Sanchez a chance to win the job.

The Jets traded up in April’s draft from the 17th overall pick to the 5th pick to get the USC star. Ryan said he expects Sanchez to start at some point, even if it’s not at the start of this season.

When reports asked Ryan about his decision to make Clemens the starter, the Jets coach clarified his remarks.

“Obviously, we’re going to give Sanchez the chance to be with the 1’s, as well,” Ryan said. “I would say that it will be an open competition and we’ll evaluate them everyday. We’ll then make the best decision.”
