Mike Babcock was introduced Thursday as Team Canada’s 2010 men’s hockey coach for the Vancouver Olympics. Babcock heads a staff that includes Ken Hitchcock, Lindy Ruff and Jacques Lemaire.

Babcock has been one of the National Hockey League’s most successful coaches in the last few years. He led the Detroit Red Wings to back-to-back Stanley Cup finals appearances, winning in 2008 and has posted at least 50 wins in four consecutive seasons.

“Any time you have a chance to play for your country or be involved with your country is a whole new level of special,” he said.

In finishing seventh in the 2006 games in Torino, Team Canada is coming off its worst showing at the games.

Canada looks to get back to a grand tradition of hockey excellence with Babcock at the helm.
