Memphis To Face NCAA Rules Violation Allegations

The Memphis men’s basketball program has been charged by the NCAA with major violations during the 2007-08 season under former coach John Calipari.
According to an NCAA report, the violation has to do with one player that participated in the 2007-08 season and the current team will not be penalized.
The wording of the report indicates the player in question competed in both the regular season and the 2008 NCAA tournament. The player’s name was no released in accordance with privacy laws.
Apparently, what the league is calling “knowing fraudulence or misconduct” on an SAT exam is what Memphis is being accused of.
If the NCAA allegations are proven true, Memphis might have to forfeit their NCAA-record 38 victories and Final Four appearance.
Athletic director R.C. Johnson has said the student-athlete who is alleged to have been involved is cooperating and the University is investigating as to whether or not anyone at the school knew about a fraudulent test.
