Mark DeRosa Hits Cleanup In Card Debut

Mark DeRosa made his Cardinals debut on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough as the Twins took the final game of the series from St. Louis 6-2.
DeRosa played left field and batted in the fourth spot, right behind Albert Pujols. DeRosa was 0-3 with three ground outs and a walk. Although he was hit-less, DeRosa did contribute defensively with a diving catch in left that robbed Justin Morneau of extra bases in the eighth inning.
DeRosa is happy to be back in the National League, playing for a contender.
“I just want to be a piece to the puzzle,” DeRosa said. “I’m excited to be here and to be back in the National League and be a part of a division race that I have a lot of familiarity with.”
The Cards hope DeRosa can provide some support for the slugging Pujols. Cleanup hitters in the Cards lineup have been batting .220, worst in the NL, with 13 homers and 48 RBIs.
