Major League Baseball’s two-time reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, Tim Lincecum, has agreed to a new two-year deal with the San Francisco Giants, settling their arbitration case. The contract is reportedly worth $23 million.

The 25-year-old right-hander had been set to ask for an arbitration-record $13 million salary for 2010 during a hearing Friday in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Lincecum’s contract, which also includes performance bonuses, is subject to him passing a physical. He made $650,000 last season.

The Giants ace was 15-7 last season with a 2.48 ERA. He’s 40-17 in his three major league seasons with a 2.90 career ERA.

It is not really clear why Lincecum settled instead of going to arbitration. Although he said their would be no hard feelings about it, he thought the Giants might bring up his offseason marijuana arrest in Washington state during a hearing.

That might have weighed into his decision.
