Monday night in Los Angeles, the Lakers did what everyone expected them to do as they coasted through their opening round series with the Utah Jazz.

Kobe Bryant scored 31 while Lamar Odom added another 26 and 15 rebounds as the Lakers took game five 107-96 to close out the series and move on to the second round.

For Utah it’s the end of an era for the Jazz. Utah tried valiantly to fight off the conclusion of their season with a fourth-quarter rally cutting a 22 point Laker lead to 6, but it wasn’t enough.

Now with the days of Malone and Stockton firmly in the past, Utah’s reign as an elite team in the Western Conference is over and this was most likely the end for the modern-day Jazz of Williams, Boozer, Andrei Kirilenko and Mehmet Okur.

The Jazz will go home and the Lakers will wait and see who they will face next.
