Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme has thrown 18 interceptions through his team’s first eleven games, including four this past Sunday against the New York Jets.

However, it not his play that might get him benched.

Head coach John Fox said that Delhomme fractured a finger on his throwing hand late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Jets and may be replaced by untested Matt Moore next week against Tampa Bay.

“If his finger wasn’t an issue, I couldn’t with a straight face make a change just with him,” Fox said. “That was a combined effort by the offensive players, not just one player. … It was poor not just by the quarterback.”

Fox has come under a lot of fire for sticking him Delhomme this season, but the injury could finally show the fans why.

Obviously, Fox has no confidence in Moore’s ability to run the offense. If he did, he would have made the switch a long time ago.
