A little under two weeks after placing the franchise tag on running back Brandon Jacobs, the New York Giants and their 264-pound powerhouse back have agreed on a four-year extension worth $25 million.

From the beginning, both side were confident that they would come to terms on an new contract that would definitely keep Jacobs in New York. But you know how things go in the National Football League, one never knows what will happen from one day to the next.

“I was confident all along that this was going to get done,” said Jacobs. “I didn’t panic one bit.”

The deal consists of about $13 million guaranteed and Jacobs will make more than $15 million for the first two years.

A big deal for the Giants top running back was inevitable, as one of the league’s most productive backs, Jacobs made $927,000 in 2008. Since the retirement of Tiki Barber at the end of the 2006 season, Jacobs has had two 1,000-yard seasons and helped the Giants to a Super Bowl Championship in 2007.
