Ghosts Of Championships Past Endorse The Jets

Former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath loves what he is seeing from his old team and thinks that there are more than a few similarities between this year’s squad and the 1968 team he lead to a Super Bowl Championship.
Of course, there’s the matter of Namath’s famous guarantee prior to Super Bowl III. Now, Jets coach Rex Ryan’s comments about New York being “favorites” to win Super Bowl XLIV.
“The team has bought into it,” said Namath. “Whether Ryan said it in jest or whether he was sincere, we all listen and enjoy. Some people want to see him fall flat, but the bottom line is winning and losing and right now he has those guys in the championship game.”
It is easy to see the parallels between this season and ‘68.
Like Super Bowl III, the Jets squares off with the Colts. Indianapolis will be heavily favored just like Baltimore was some 41 years ago.
One thing is for sure, if New York comes away with a win in Indy this week, it will be just as shocking as it was all those years ago.
