Florida Marlins Actually Opening Up Their Wallet

Year after year, the Florida Marlins seem to develop some really good young talent and then let them slip away when the time come pay for them.
But, maybe times are changing in the Sunshine State.
Pitcher Josh Johnson and his Marlins have finalized a $39 million, four-year contract and have announced the deal at the construction site of the ballpark they expect to move into by 2012.
According to reports, the right-hander gets $3.75 million in 2010, $7.75 million in 2011 and $13.75 million in both 2012 and 2013.
“I’m excited,” said Johnson. “It sets up me and my family for life. One of the best parts is knowing where I’m going to be the next four years. I won’t have to hear about any trade rumors or anything like that. I’m happy to be in South Florida.”
And what’s not to like about playing ball in South Florida? Most players feel the same way until they are not being paid what they are worth.
Historically the Marlins organization has been outstanding at finding a developing great players in their farm system. If they pay these guys and start filling the seats; the Florida Marlins could become very dangerous to the rest of Major League Baseball.
