Tracy McGrady’s exciting debut was almost everything the Knicks could have hoped for, but it just wasn’t enough for New York to come away with a win against the Oklahoma Thunder on Saturday night.

Kevin Durant and the surging Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Knicks 121-118 in overtime.

McGrady scored 26 points in his first game since the Knicks acquired him at Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

However, he spent most of overtime on the bench, exhausted after playing 32 minutes in his first action since December.

Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said after the game that he was out of gas, but was impressed with how well he played considering how little action he has seen in the last couple of years.

McGrady has played in only 42 games in the last two seasons, counting Saturday’s game with New York and while with Houston.

This was a shockingly strong start for McGrady. He did not expect to play more than 20 minutes, but ended up almost leading his new team to a victory over a strong Oklahoma City squad.
