According to an unnamed member of Notre Dame’s coaching staff, Charlie Weis has been fired as the head coach of the Fighting Irish.
The New York Daily News and the Associated Press are both reporting that Weis has been ousted.
Notre Dame players have scheduled a mid-afternoon players meeting that will include a vote on whether they want to play in a bowl game after a 6-6 season. Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will consider the players’ wishes in deciding on a bowl trip.
The member of the coaching staff said a decision hasn’t been made on an interim coach, rather the Fighting Irish will apparently wait to see whether the players will decide if they want to participate in a bowl game first.
