Boston Sets New Modern Day Record For Wild Pitches

The win-less Daisuke Matsuzaka along with the rest of the Red Sox pitchers from Wednesday night tied a modern-day record with six wild pitches.
Matsuzaka tied a franchise record set 80 years ago with four wild pitches, while relievers Manny Delcarmen and Justin Masterson also chucked one each in the Red Sox 4-2 loss in Minnesota.
This was the first time George Kottaras, who is the normal catcher for knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, was behind the plate for a start by Matsuzaka. But it was not his fault.
Matsuzaka was all over the place in his second start after coming off the disabled list. He gave up three runs on nine hits in five innings with three walks and six strikeouts. He looked just plan awful.
Boston’s 28 year old righty has just not been able to put it together this season. He is 0-3 with an ERA over 8.00 while battling a shoulder injury.
