Nationals slugger Adam Dunn ended Atlanta Braves rookie Tommy Hanson’s consecutive scoreless innings streak at 26 by blasting his 300th career home run.

With the milestone blast, Dunn became just the fifth player major league history to reach that total in less than 4,200 at-bats and only the 13th player to reach 300 before his 30th birthday.

Dunn joined Lance Berkman, Ivan Rodriguez, Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko to become the fifth player to hit their 300th this season when he sent a 2-2 fastball into the second deck of right field in the seventh inning against the Braves.

Dunn said the long ball was special because the Nationals were able to win the game.

“It really wasn’t significant at the time,” said Dunn. “The reason I said it because it was a solo home run. We were down by two. What made it special was the way we won the game.”

Dunn drove in the game-winning run, a single to right field against left-hander Eric O’Flaherty in the eighth.
